Research at the Department of Italian Language and Literature

The academic members of the Department of Italian Language and Literature maintain a wide range of research activities in various fields, including an active publications record, the participation in international conferences, the organization of conferences and symposia with invited speakers of international acclaim, the systematic organization of seminars for the presentation of cutting edge research in the department’s research focus areas, and the on-going research with the participation of both undergraduate and graduate students in the Department’s research labs.

More specifically, the Department of Italian Language and Literature maintains two research Laboratories:

The Computational Stylistics Lab, founded in 2017 by Professor George Mikros. Current director Professor Giannoula Giannoulopoulou (active term 1/9/2020-31/8/2020).

The Laboratory of Language, Translation and Study of the Relations between Greek and Italian Languages (Laboratorio di Lingua, Traduzione e Studio del contatto linguistico italogreco, Lab.It.El.), founded in 2017 by Professor Domenica Minniti Gonias. Current director Professor Domenica Minniti Gonias (active term 1/9/2020-31/8/2020). Among other research activities, the Laboratory organizes the bi-annual international conference Italloelenica.

Seminar for Italian History and Historiography

The Department also organizes and hosts the Seminar for Italian History and Historiography, aiming at the presentation of recent trends and findings in archival studies, the interdisciplinary perspectives of Italian history and culture and its influence on Europe, in general, and the Mediterranean, in particular, the dissemination of knowledge regarding Italian history outside Italy etc.

The Seminar invites established and junior scholars from Greece and abroad to present their research to a wide audience of undergraduate and graduate students, alumni, professors, as well as the wider public. Seminars are hosted by the Department and are open to all interested parts.
